Project: Hannan-Crusaid Treatment Clinic, Cape Town, RSA
Role: Consultant Grant Manager
Activities: Acting as independent grant manager and working with Crusaid’s two partners, Provincial Administration of the Western Cape and Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation to deliver the project, assessing the business plan for the new clinic and making recommendations, monitoring progress of the build programme; advising the Crusaid Board on status of project (both business development and construction of clinic), activities undertaken, potential actions to take.; liaising with contracted representative in South Africa; project visits; monitoring conditions of the award and recommending payments when appropriate.
The Hannan Crusaid Treatment Clinic was the first dedicated HIV treatment centre in the Western Cape. The successful Sizophila ARV Counsellors model was piloted at the centre and a trial using mobile phones to report DOTS back to doctors in the centre was undertaken in collaboration with the engineering faculty at the University of Cape Town.
My success in this project led to my appointment as Crusaid’s Chief Executive in July 2003.
