Value for Money in Arthritis Care’s Self-Management Courses

Project: Governance support (September 2010 – June 2012)

Activities: Arthritis Care asked me to provide company secretarial support on an interim consultancy basis.  In addition to some of the activities described previously, I continue to advise the national and regional committees and offices on governance matters concerning the branch network and membership network.  I have also facilitated board and SMT residential meetings, Arthritis Care’s AGM on 25 June 2011, facilitated trustee recruitment and induction processes and supported the trustees in a number of highly sensitive, confidential matters; working closely with the charity’s legal advisors, Russell-Cooke

Project: Governance support and revision of the regional manual (January 2010 – May 2010)

Activities: Arthritis Care asked me to provide company secretarial support whilst they searched for a permanent candidate.  During that time I also worked with the chair and CEO to finalise the revised sub-committee structure for the organisation.  Updated the bye-laws of the organisation and reviewed and recommended changes to the board appraisal process.  Advised the national and regional directors on matters concerning the branch network and membership network

At the board’s request, reviewed and rewrote the regional manual, Arthritis Care’s primary management tool to manage the work of 300 branches and six regions and nations across the UK.  This process included stakeholder consultation, research and process evaluation.

Neil Betteridge, the former CEO of Arthritis Care said, “Robin provided invaluable support on a number of key governance issues in his 5 months with Arthritis Care.  He is a skillful facilitator but also able to provide first class advice on a range of sensitive issues.  I particularly appreciated his ability to make complex information accessible to a variety of audiences, thereby engaging people effectively and constructively.”
